Launched by Cipla, I-Pill is an emergency contraceptive pill which can be taken by women who want to avoid unplanned pregnancy and abortion after having unprotected sex or forced sex. Sometimes, despite using condom during the intercourse, if a woman is afraid it may result in pregnancy, she may take an i-pill to alleviate her anxiety and fear. It may also happen that you earlier took an emotional decision to get pregnant but now you want to delay it so you may decide to take this pill to avoid being pregnant. I-Pill Uses and Benefits I-Pill is used as a birth control pill which prevents the implantation of fertilized egg into the ovaries, thus helping in avoiding pregnancy. However, it is not an abortion pill so if a woman is already pregnant, then this pill will not be of any use. The pill needs to be taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex. However, it is most effective (~95%) if taken within 24 hours. Thus, it is also known as morning-after pill. It is consumed orally with water and preferably after meals to avoid vomiting. In case there is vomiting within 2-3 hours of taking this pill, another I-pill needs to be taken. I-Pill can also be taken by lactating mothers.
