Wedding is a sparkling moment in anyone’s life. And the Maharashtrian bride’s charismatic look with solah shringaar from head to toe adds to its vibrancy. The bride generally dons marigold, orange or green colored saree on her D day. The saree may be Pathani saree (6 yards) or Nauvari saree (9 yards). While Pathani saree is draped as a normal saree, Nauvari saree is draped around legs which gives pant like appearance. In ancient times, fisherwoman used to wear Nauvari saree to show themselves equivalent to man. Her jewellery box contains Nath (nose ring), ambada (beautifully embellished hair clip which adorns bride’s bun), green bangles, waistband, toe rings and other accessories. And the groom looks simple yet elegant in traditional Dhoti-kurta. Both the bride and groom are made to wear a headpiece - wreath of white flowers and pearls. The simple vegetarian food cooked with right amount of spices and love graces the occasion of marriage, Puran-Poli, Shrikhand being the food highlights.
