The best part about Indian Weddings is that they are full of beautiful rituals and customs which have a deep meaning. However, we often end up following these customs blindly without fully understanding their significance. Such is the case with the quintessential Haldi ceremony which has been a part of Indian weddings for centuries. The most common and regular use of Haldi or Turmeric is as an ingredient in Indian cuisine. Then it makes little sense as to why an entire ritual is named after this food ingredient. Well, not only does applying haldi help in getting a fair and glowing skin (oh yeah!), its saffron color is also believed to protect the wedding couple and ward off evil eye. That is why in many customs, once the haldi ceremony has taken place, it is advisable for the bride and groom to not go out or meet each other until they get married.  Yellow color of Haldi is considered so auspicious that it is believed that applying this color will result in a peaceful, prosperous and blissful married life for the couple.
